Inside Montgomery County

Discover the dog conformation competiton that showcases dogdom's top terriers!

Amy Fernandez

Montgomery has been the final word in Terriers since 1926. Its first terrier specialty went to the Sealyham Ch. Pinegrade Scotia Swell. At their next event, an Airedale took BIS. Montgomery’s early years were dominated by these breeds and things have come full circle in 2007.

There are a few changes. In 1930 Percy Roberts handled Ch. Flornell Tavern Maid to BIS over an entry of 173. This year, Jenny Wornell handled America’s # 1 Airedale, Ch. Evermay’s High Performance to triumph over an entry of 2066, including the winners of 18 other Terrier specialties.“ Correct in every way, he was presented artfully and in superb condition” said Group judge, Michael J. Dougherty “He moved beautifully from all directions and when asked to face-off, he locked into the perfect pose.”

Group Two went to the Sealyham, Ch. Efbe’s Hidalgo at Goodspice. “Presented in excellent form, he showed off all of his attributes beautifully” noted Dougherty.  “Charmin,” has led the terrier pack as #1 throughout 2007. “He’s on a roll” says owner/handler Margery Good. “He’s up to 37 BIS, including four this month. We’ve received so much support. It’s been an unbelievable experience.”

Group Three went to the Colored Bull Terrier, Ch. Rocky Top’s Sundance Kid, winner of Westminster 2005.  According to Dougherty, “He is every inch a Bull Terrier. Magnificent head and bite, beautiful outline, and in great condition. He carried the ring with power and grace.” Owners Barb and Tom Bishop were understandably elated. “This was Rufus’s first time out as a Veteran and Montgomery is such an important show.”

Group Fourth went to American and Brazilian Ch. Torquay Demetrio, winner of 24 BIS to date. Judge Dougherty describes him as very showy. “He has a terrific outline and was as beautiful to go over as he was to look at.”
