It’s the holidays, so it’s time for giving not only to your beloved pets, but to pets that may not be as fortunate to have loving owners like yourself. Along with your donations to your favorite animal charities, there are also plenty of nonprofits and companies that sell great human and dog products and donate proceeds to worthy causes.
Gifts for Dogs
Here are five different online shops that will not only make your pets happy, but support organizations that help dogs in need:
WeHeartDogs provides photography services to those in the Pennsylvania area as well as low-priced toys and assorted pet items in its online shop. A portion of every item sold is donated to the Humane Society, the ASPCA and other animal-based charities. Check out the Flat Duck toy with no stuffing, the large soccer ball, and the argyle tanks.
The North Shore Animal League runs the world’s largest no-kill rescue and adoption organization, and every purchase that is made on their website benefits the organization. For Chanukah observers, Chewish squeak toys feature Jewish cultural touchstones. For a traditional Christmas, your pooch will adore the Edible Advent Calendar.
At Aurora’s Across America, 20 percent of all proceeds from each box of homemade dog treats go to dog charities, and you can even request that the company donate to your choice of animal charity. Find traditional holiday treats for your favorite pooch, or go for fun flavors such as Aurora’s Apple Dapple, Kutcher’s Chicken Kitties, or Sadi’s Sin-a-mon Swirls.
The Wisconsin Humane Society features plenty of pet products on their website, with proceeds benefitting the work they do in getting dogs adopted in its home state. Look out for the Thundershirt, which applies soothing pressure to help calm dogs if they are anxious, dog boots to deal with hot as well as chilly days, and the Excursion Dog Backpack for fun activities together.
Emma and Company produces veggie dog cookies, gift baskets and decorated scarves for your precious pooch. Jan Gurtner, who runs the company, raises dogs for Canine Companions for Independence and has donated over $50,000 to the organization. On her site, 100 percent of the proceeds go to CCI and to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, as one of her dogs was placed with a 17-year-old with the disease.
