Get Busy!

Simple ways to housetrain your dog.

Routines vary from puppy to puppy, but up-and-out first thing in the a.m., after meals, naps and play sessions and every few hours during the day. Your pup needs to urinate and defecate on the last walk of the night if you hope to have a good night's sleep. In general, no water should be given to your pup after 7:00 p.m. unless it is the weather is hot.

Most puppies can be reliably housetrained by the age of 6 months but some take longer. Teach commands and reward your pup when it goes in the wanted areas to speed the housetraining process. As your pup squats to urinate say "hurry up" praise as the pup goes and reward with treat after it is done. Use "get busy" for defecation and again lavish praise and reward when the pup finishes the act. Most pups can be taught to relieve themselves on command.

I adopted a 4 yr. old doxie and he pees on everything that is material, bed, couch, blankets. I have been crating him, but he even pees in his crate!!!! Help I am ready to give him back to the rescue group. I have 2 older doxies, and take them all out together - he goes when he is outside, which is often, and goes on the above mentioned too.

help! my 1 yr old malteagle is still having accidents on our carpet. most of the time she only had a few accidents but it became a little more so we started putting her in her crate every time we leave the house to prevent her from ruining our carpet. but since we have been using the crate when we're not home she's been making even more accidents. i don't know what to do.. i clean the area with an oder eliminator and then i shampoo the carget. she was good with using her puppy pads when we're not home but lately she's been acting out.
