A few months ago we introduced you to cheetah cub, Ruuxa and his Rhodesian Ridgeback pal, Raina. At only 3-weeks old, the unlikely duo became the youngest addition to the San Diego Zoo Safari Parks program to pair wild cats with dogs. Abandoned by his mother, Ruuxa was in need of a friend and Raina was more than happy to provide the puppy love he needed.
Now at 4 months old, the pair is thriving together. Ruuxa, recently underwent surgery to repair growth abnormalities in his front limbs and Raina was right by his side. Ruuxa has shown signs of improvement and Raina is helping him heal through walks and play time.
"Ruuxa and Raina have the closest relationship of any of the cheetahs and dogs that we have raised here at the Safari Park in the last 13 years,” says Janet Rose-Hinostroza, animal training supervisor, San Diego Zoo. "They are much more like siblings than friends. They are very, very close and they take a lot of comfort in one another.”
