The 2012 FCI World Show was held on May 18-20 in Salzburg, Austria. Best in Show from the approximately 18,000 dogs entered was the Saluki, Ch. Shiraz California Dreamin’, owned and shown by Nicklas and Ingunn Eriksson of Sweden, with runner-up BIS going to the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Ch. Andvol Pinkerton from Russia. The finale was judged by Hans Müller of Switzerland, longtime President of the FCI.
The Saluki, 6 years old and known as “Harley” to dog show people worldwide, was bred in the US by Mike and Elena Edwards and Valerie Nunes-Atkinson. He has won BIS at many of the top shows in Europe, was No. 1 All Breeds in Sweden for both 2009 and 2011, and finished as runner-up at the Eukanuba World Challenge in California in 2009. Harley was sired from 10-year old frozen semen by the Australian export Ch. Baghdad Globetrotter out of Ch. Enchanted Shiraz Dreamcatcher, JC.
The Corgi also has a long list of big international wins. He is of part English breeding, sired by Ch. Ermyn Cranberry Frost out of Ch. Andvol Koroleva Margo, and has a small amount of US blood in the back of his pedigree. He was shown by Olga Shilova for owner Olga Shuvalova, and was bred by the Andvol kennels of Marina Volkova in Kursk, Russia.
The other Group winners were Newfoundland Ch. Starry Town Bon Prin from Italy; American Staffordshire Terrier Ch. Don King of Ring’s from Serbia; Siberian Husky Ch. Snowmist’s Quicksilver Speigas, bred in Canada but living in Lithuania; Smooth Dachshund Ch. Norden Liht Unkas from Russia; Basset Fauve de Bretagne Ch. Shiroblam First Slip, born in the UK but now living in Sweden; Weimaraner Ch. Grey Classic’s Ipanema Girl from Belgium; English Springer Spaniel Linmoor Zimply Zalient, bred in Sweden but exported to Poland; and Standard Poodle Ch.
