2012 Show Dogs of the Year Awards: Group Winners

Meet the show dogs honored at the 2012 Show Dogs of the Year Awards, held February 9, 2013, in New York City.

The show dogs honored were those that garnered the most Firsts in their respective Groups during 2012. The teams of all eight great dogs — the dogs' proud owners, handlers and breeders — were recognized for their contributions to the sport and their incredible records.

Showdogs 2012 Sporting
  

The Sporting Group team representing the German Wirehaired Pointer dog GCh. Mt. View's Ripsnorter Silver Charm. 'Oakley' also won the Best in Show award.

The Sporting Group. With 152 Group Firsts, the Sporting Group winner was German Wirehaired Pointer dog GCh. Mt. View's Ripsnorter Silver Charm. Handled by Phillip Booth, 'Oakley' is owned by Victor Malzoni, Jr. and was bred by James Witt, Claire Wisch and Kelly Wisch. The Best in Show award for the dog winning the most BIS in one year also went to Oakley, who earned 73 in 2012.

Showdogs 2012 Hound
  

The Hound Group team representing the Harrier dog GCh. Downhome Hitech Innovator.

The Hound Group. Harrier dog GCh. Downhome Hitech Innovator was the Hound Group winner, with 106 Group Firsts. 'Chet' is owned by Joe Sanchez, bred by Susan Lowder, Miriam Nell and Kenneth Nell, and handled by Susie Olivera.

Showdogs 2012 Working
  

The Working Group team representing the Doberman Pinscher bitch GCh. Protocol's Veni Vidi Vici.

The Working Group. The Working Group winner, with 116 Group Firsts, was Doberman Pinscher bitch GCh. Protocol's Veni Vidi Vici. Breeder/owner-handler Jocelyn Mullins calls her 'Fifi,' and she is owned by Jocelyn and her husband, Kevin, with Suzy and Dick Lundy.

Showdogs 2012 Terrier
  

The Terrier Group team representing the Wire Fox Terrier bitch GCh. Afterall Painting The Sky.

The Terrier Group. Wire Fox Terrier bitch GCh. Afterall Painting The Sky was the Terrier Group winner with 98 Group Firsts. 'Sky' is owned by Victor Malzoni, Jr., Torie Steele, Scott and Mary Olund and Diane Ryan, and was bred by Al J. Pertuit, Jr. and Betty Seaton. She is handled by Gabriel Rangel.

Showdogs 2012 Toy
  

The Toy Group team representing the Affenpinscher dog GCh. Banana Joe v. Tani Kazari.

The Toy Group. GCh. Banana Joe v. Tani Kazari, the Toy Group winner, has become a household name since his Westminster Best in Show victory. 'Joe' earned 128 Group Firsts in 2012, always handled by Ernesto Lara. He was bred by Mieke Cooymans, who co-owns him with Zoila Truesdale.

Showdogs 2012 Non-Sporting
  

The Non-Sporting Group team representing the black Standard Poodle dog GCh. Jaset's Satisfaction.

The Non-Sporting Group. The Non-Sporting Group winner was the black Standard Poodle dog GCh. Jaset's Satisfaction with 98 Group Firsts. 'London' is owned by Beth Harris, Michele Molnar and Jamie Danburg, bred by Sandra Tompkins and Chris Bailey, and handled by Ann Rairigh.

Showdogs 2012 Herding
  

The Herding Group team representing the German Shepherd Dog GCh. Babheim's Captain Crunch.

The Herding Group. 'Capi,' the German Shepherd Dog, won 94 Group Firsts to become the winner of the Herding Group. GCh. Babheim's Captain Crunch is handled by James Moses and was bred by Carlos Navarro, both of whom are owners with Sheree Moses, Deborah Stern, Janet Lange and Maria Deschamps.

Showdogs 2012 Obedience
  

Brenda Rivera, owner-handler of the Top Obedience Dog of 2010, 2011 and 2012 Ch. OTCH Wildfire Pilot's License To Fly UDX40 OGM.

Top Obedience Dog. Border Collie 'Pilot,' the Obedience Dog of 2010 and 2011, flew to the top again to reclaim his title in 2012. Last year Ch. OTCH Wildfire Pilot's License To Fly, UDX40, OGM won 1,268 points. Pilot was handled by his owner Brenda Rivera, who referred to Pilot as a "once-in-a-lifetime dog" and recalled how many obedience judges considered Pilot the best obedience dog they'd ever seen. Sadly, Pilot died late last year. He was bred by Pat Schultz.

Showdogs 2012 Champions Cup
  

Ann Viklund from Purina presented the $10,000 cash prize to the team of English Springer Spaniel GCh. Wynmoor Champagne Supernova. He won the Pro Plan Champions Cup.

2012 Pro Plan Champions Cup. The 2012 Pro Plan Champions Cup went to English Springer Spaniel GCh. Wynmoor Champagne Supernova 'Peyton.' This coveted award, sponsored by Purina Pro Plan dog food, is based on points earned in Best in Shows and Group placements. Peyton's team received a $10,000 cash prize, an original oil painting by artist Linda Draper and a keepsake Pro Plan Champions Cup trophy. Peyton was bred by Billie, Erin and Charlie Kerfoot, and Ruth Kirby, is owned by Celie Florence, Beth Fink, Ken McWilliams, Erin Kerfoot and Delores Streng, and is handled by Robin Novack.
