English Shepherd DOG PROFILE

The English Shepherd is a working farm dog that is suited to a variety of tasks. It is a good herding dog for all kinds of stock, an eager hunter and can learn to pull a cart. English Shepherds work well independently or under supervision. They are active, good with children and make good watchdogs. These versatile dogs were developed from Scotch Collies, Border Collies and other working dogs. It is believed that the English Shepherd is similar to the sheep and cattle dogs that accompanied the Romans to the British Isles. Farmers praise the English Shepherd for its agility, hard work and devotion to family. The breed's long coat can be kept tangle-free with a good brushing about three times a week. The English Shepherd's calm steadiness, keen senses and intelligence make it most suited to an active family that can give it plenty of work and love.
