What's this?
The English Setter is an elegant gundog that was well established in Britain before 1900. This handsome, affectionate sporting dog comes in a variety of colors: solid white; black, orange, liver or lemon with white, and tricolor. The coat is straight and flat with light feathering on the ears, chest, legs, underbody and tail. It needs to be brushed about three times a week, and some trimming is needed to shape the feathering and neaten the outline. Average height for males is 25 inches at the shoulder; females stand 1 inch less. The breed makes a kind-tempered family pet and can be a good watchdog. English Setters are highly active and prefer life in a rural setting where they will be given plenty of daily exercise. They have a soft temperament and do best with kind, consistent training.
