How to Select a Puppy for Show

All puppies look sweet, but not every puppy has champion show-dog potential.

Running on a Puppy
Some breeders are willing to run on a puppy until it is about five or six months old. What this means is that the breeder retains the puppy (sometimes two) until it is a little more mature, to better assess whether or not it will be up to the standards for the show ring. In the case of running on more than one puppy, the breeder assesses which of them will be the best prospect. In this case, you will book the puppy in advance and will have to pay a much higher price than if you had bought a pup of eight or 10 weeks of age.
