Training Overview: The English Springer Spaniel

Five tips to keep in mind when training the English Spring Spaniel puppy.

1. Your puppy knows nothing of your house rules. Take advantage of your puppy's aptitude for learning at this stage in his life, and be consistent in teaching him what is and is not acceptable behavior.

2. Positive-reinforcement training is based on rewarding when a pup performs correctly or stops an undesirable behavior. Rewards include treats, toys, petting and, most importantly, verbal praise.

3. When training, remember the basics: use simple commands, be careful with your timing and try to approach things from your puppy's point of view.

4. Acquaint yourself with the basic principles of training before you get started and, most importantly, implement them.

Excellent information. I am also looking for a puppy kindergarten so that my puppy who is now 10 weeks old will socialize with other dogs. I have not found one yet.
