Look For Dog-Friendly Lodging:

The Gain: Finding havens that allow pets is a pleasure, reports San Francisco-based Jerome B. Jacobson, who found a suite in Tucson, Arizona. "On a recent trip with our 65-pound Standard Poodle, we ran across one chain of reasonably priced suite motels that not only permits pets, but actually welcomes them."

The Pain: Taking a pet on a trip and not being able to find a place to stay is a mega inconvenience.

Cost Factor: Rates for dog-friendly lodging vary from $50 to $300 (not including pet deposit). For more information contact, pet-friendly Windmill Inns.

Extra Tidbits: According to the AAHA pet owner survey, 77 percent of dog owners travel with their pets, and 41 percent have stayed in a hotel or motel with their dogs.
