What's this?
Bred in Africa since the 17th century, the South African Boerboel is a fearless protector of home and family. A blend of European mastiff-type dogs and large African native dogs, the result is an imposing, self-assured, loyal dog with strong guarding and watchdog instincts. The South African Boerboel bears the large, muscular body; thick, loose skin; and broad, square head that are characteristic of mastiffs around the world. Ideal height for males is 26 inches at the withers; females, 24 inches. This breed's short coat may be cream, pale tawny, reddish brown, brown and all shades of brindle, with or without white markings, often with a black face mask. The South African Boerboel is a strong, intelligent breed that requires early and consistent training and socialization. It's known for its love of children and its protective, obedient nature.
