Wirehaired Vizsla DOG PROFILE

The Wirehaired Vizsla is a fairly new breed which was developed by hunters looking to create a dog with the smooth-coated Vizsla’s color, but with a heavier build and a dense wiry coat to make it more apt to working in rough field conditions. Two Vizsla bitches were bred to a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon and by the mid 1940s there were third-generation dogs registered in the semi-official stud book. The Wirehaired Vizsla is prized by hunters for its endurance, fearlessness and retrieving abilities. They are also outgoing, intelligent and friendly so they make excellent family dogs and take to sports training very well. They can be aloof with strangers and protective so early positive-reinforcement training is important.
