Dog College Classes - Level 2

Dog College 100 Level gave you a foundation in canine knowledge. Build on what you've learned with Dog College 200 Level Classes.

You may take any courses from any level, for dog education enrichment.  Each course includes a video, reading material, chart or slide show along with a corresponding quiz. You must pass the quiz with a score of 60 percent or higher to receive credit (i.e., Club Dog points) for taking the course.

FIRST SEMESTER

Oral Pathology 201

Reading Assignment: Learn about three common oral diseases in dogs, their symptoms, causes and treatment methods.

Photography 201: Reading what your dog is saying requires an appreciation that every dog is different, depending on age, personality, level of socialization, breed and training

SECOND SEMESTER

Philosophy 201: Dog Training Theories: Dog trainers are divided into two camps: pack theory and positive reinforcement. We’ll take a look at these two types and analyze the theories behind them.

Reading Assignment: Learn about the history and premise for each main training theory, plus arguments for and against each method.

Chart: Compare and contrast the basic elements of the two main training theories.

Instructor:Gavin Ehringer has covered the companion animal scene since 1990. With a background training both livestock dogs and horses, he has written for dozens of magazines including Western Horseman, Horse & Rider, Cowboys & Indians, American Cowboy, and elsewhere. He owns, trains and exhibits Australian Shepherds in conformation, obedience, Frisbee and agility. Health Science 201: Natural Nutritional Supplements: An introduction to natural dietary supplements, which can be used preventively for healthy dogs to ward off illness and to increase vitality.

Instructor: Lisa Gail Murray has had a lifetime interest in natural supplements and remedies. Her love of dogs led her to managing the public relations department of a business devoted to developing and seeking out new products for handicapped pets, primarily dogs. Two happy mixed breeds share their home with Lisa.

First Responder 201: Recognizing an Emergency: Most dog owners will intuitively know if something is wrong with their dogs. The challenge is to be able to recognize a potential medical emergency before it becomes life-threatening. This course will teach you what to look for.

Dog Law 201: Pets as Property: Although owners may view their dogs as part of the family, our laws say otherwise. This course will explore companion animals’ current legal standing in our society.
