A Case of Mistaken Identity
Don’t confuse the Toller for another breed; this dog is truly distinctive.
Henry, a 7-month-old Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, can hardly wait for his turn to retrieve a bird. Whining and straining at his leash, he avidly watches fellow Toller Lucy work through her complicated find-and-retrieve lesson.
“Tollers are bred to be energetic, animated working dogs,” says Henry’s owner Katie D., president of the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Club USA and a breeder in Oregon.
“Lucy is a fun-loving, hard worker, and she finished her American Kennel Club Junior Hunter title at 15 months,” Katie says. “Her fans call her ‘the little red rocket’ for her fast, flashy, working style."
