Before my puppy, Onda, spent his first night at home, I talked to the breeder, spoke with several local trainers, and cracked open a half-dozen books to find the best method for training my dog.

Although no two trainers are exactly alike, my research into books, videos, articles, and online help regarding ideal canine training methods revealed what many new owners discover: two predominant approaches to dog training. Which was best for me and my new best friend? How I answered that question would shape not just my training but also our relationship.
