Good as Gold
The ever-popular Golden Retriever makes a trustworthy family friend.
At the age of 91, Elinor Donovan has slowed down a little, but that doesn’t mean her Golden Retriever Buddy has to slow down, too. Every day, Donovan sits on her back porch and throws a tennis ball into the yard. The ball rolls down a hill, and Buddy dashes after it, then brings it back. A hundred throws later, Buddy is happy and calm.
“You don’t necessarily need to be active to be a great Golden Retriever owner,” says Carol Allen, Golden Retriever Club of America National Rescue Committee Chair and Donovan’s neighbor. “But to be a good pet, your Golden Retriever does.”
