2012 Me and My Rescue Contest Contest

Bentley -
My adopted dog's rescue story:
Growing up I always had animals around, mostly dogs and cattle. But has only one dog ever stole my heart he was a full blooded beagle I had growing up, four years ago he died after me and my wife had married. He was around 15+ years old, he was like my child. Never did I think I would find a dog that would or could make me feel like he did for all them years. Until we went to our local animal shelter and searched for a small breed dog,we have two outside dogs (both bassett hounds) but we wanted a inside dog to love and care for as well, we werent looking to replace our beagle but find a dog to help ease our grief from losing him. While looking at the shelter, we found this mangled curly haired mutt, he was so pityful looking that we did not have the heart to leave him there, we didnt care how old or if he was going to stay that small we knew in our hearts he was meant for us. My wife so excited she didnt even let them groom him,she said she would do it at home, this stinky little dog had already began working his magic on us, my wife covered in his hair and stench went to the store to buy him all these new things not caring who or what anyone was thinking about how she smelled. She was in love with this dog, after getting him home we were septical about how we should leave him, he was this terrified small little dog who had been abused by his previous owners and felt as though he didnt know if he could trust us, gradually he came around and became more and more of a child to us. Today we still have him and do not know what we would do without him crowding us out of our own bed, eatting our dinner or barking excitedly when we arrive home. He was the best dog we could have imagined getting. We believe that somewhere deep down that our beagle had came back to us in the love we have for our Bentley. THe picture posted is our first day having him, after a good grooming.

It's amazing to read Susy's story, and I am not easily amazed. WHO would throw away such an obviously GREAT dog? Hard to conceive of a dog going from the pound in such bad shape to doing the job she does for America's wounded Soldiers. We could all take a lesson from that plucky GSD. Good going, Susy and Debbie!

Some of these dogs aren't really rescued dogs.=( If you got from a pet store you didn't really "rescue"it.If you got from a shelter then yes you did save it because it would be put to sleep.Pet stores don't do
But on the bright side, there are some really good rescue stories here;I enjoy reading them.

What a great story of adoption! You have made such a difference in his life as he has in yours.
