At the time I owned my last dog, natural pet products were not widely available. Even natural human products were found only in specialty health stores. To be honest, with my last dog, I rarely thought about the ingredients in his treats or considered whether or not the materials in his toys were natural.
How different things are today! Ever since I acquired my Miniature Poodle, Jäger, I find myself obsessively reading the ingredients labels on his food, treats and chews, and verifying company claims like “sourced in the U.S.A.” and “organic.” I now scrutinize toy labels to be sure the materials are nontoxic. Whenever possible, I want natural or organic products for my dog.
Today, it’s easy to find natural products for pets in a variety of outlets, including pet-supply stores, online and even grocery stores. The natural pet product trend has become so popular that it’s nearly crossed over from trend to mainstream. Natural and organic pet food and treats, biodegradable beds and toys, and eco-friendly product packaging have become a way of life.
