The American Humane Association is seeking nominations for the Be Kind to Animals Kid Contest. Kids ages 6 to 13 who are working hard in their communities to improve the welfare of animals can be nominated.

Nominees will be divided into two age groups: 6 to 9 and 10 to 13. One grand prize winner and two runners-up will be selected from each group. All winners and runners-up will receive a prize package and will be featured in American Humane press materials and on the American Humane Association website.

Contest rules and nomination forms can be found at http://www.americanhumane.org/. Nominations must be postmarked by April 16, 2007 and must be for children who are between the ages of 6 and 13 at the time of nomination.

The winners will be announced during Be Kind to Animals Week, from May 6 to 12, 2007. This year’s seven-day event, which celebrates the companionship, friendship and love that animals bring into people’s lives, marks its 93rd annual observance.

“Over the years, we have significantly increased public awareness about the importance of animals in our lives, including the need to treat them humanely. Celebrating Be Kind to Animals Week each year helps keep that humane message in the forefront of the public's thoughts and actions,” said Marie Belew Wheatley, president and CEO of American Humane Association.

Anyone nominating a young person for the Be Kind to Animals Kid Contest must be 18 or older and the child’s legal guardian or have written permission from the child’s guardian.
