Dog Jumps on Sliding Door to Alert Family of Fire
Prince George's County, Md., fire officials said a family's barking dog alerted them to a fire and enabled them to escape without injury. Monster, a Doberman, barked and jumped repeatedly on a rear sliding door. The noise awakened the family, who then heard the smoke alarm and fled the home, The Associated Press reports.

Officer Fires Gun to Disperse Dogs
Gunfire broke out in Fort Dupont Park. No one was wounded – and no animals were harmed. A U.S. Park Police spokesman said the incident, shortly after 1:30 p.m. Monday, resulted from the chaotic confluence of a careless dog walker, about 16 pooches menacing a pair of frightened police horses, and an officer who squeezed off a round or two into the ground to show the canines who was boss, The Washington Post reports.
