Court Reverses Decision in Dog Scent Case
The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals has acquitted a man jailed for murder largely on the evidence of three Bloodhounds who allegedly matched his scent to the crime scene. Richard Winfrey Sr. could soon be freed after the appeals court reversed his 2007 guilty verdict Wednesday, ruling the evidence was legally insufficient to convict. Prosecutors will not be allowed to retry the case, The Associated Press reports.

Michigan Might Ban Use of Gas to Euthanize Pets
The Michigan House has approved legislation that would ban the use of poisonous gas to euthanize unwanted dogs and cats at animal shelters. The measures now go to the Senate. The House plan would require the use of lethal injections at animal shelters when unwanted dogs and cats are killed. Supporters say the injection method is more humane, The Associated Press reports.
