Descended from powerful mastiff-type dogs, the Rottweiler is an impressively strong, loyal and trustworthy breed. Once used to drive and guard cattle in Germany, the breed nearly died out with the invention of roads and transportation. Kept going by rare breed enthusiasts, it was discovered that their impressive skills could be put to a variety of uses. Today, they shine in roles as police dogs, search and rescue and guard dogs.

Recognizable by their strong physique and signature black and tan coat, this powerful breed is not one to fade into the background in looks or personality. They require minimal grooming and range in size from 22 to 27 inches at the shoulder. Bred to work they require daily exercise to keep them stimulated. They can have strong personalities, but make devoted family pets in the right home.

I love rotties. Such a sweet natured breed that gets such a bad rap.
