“Cora is incredibly special to us, and a total original,” Hamm says. Westfeldt, who stars in Friends with Kids, agrees. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to share her with kids all over the country.”
“It’s very exciting to have Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt appear together on Martha Speaks with their dog Cora,” says Carol Greenwald, the show’s senior executive producer. “Not only are they both great actors and very funny, but they do a wonderful job helping us teach kids new vocabulary words like audition and reunite. And Cora is a star in the making, stealing the spotlight from all of the (animated) human characters!”
Martha Speaks is based on the best-selling books by Susan Meddaugh, and follows the adventures of Martha, a lovable dog whose appetite for alphabet soup gives her the power of human speech. The episode, entitled Cora! Cora! Cora!, features a traveling production of Antony and Cleopatra, a case of mistaken identity and a troupe of circus dogs. Westfeldt portrays Martha’s family friend Kit Luntanne, who’s upset that she’s had to leave her lovable dog, Cora, at home while she travels with her acting troupe. Martha tries to help by visiting Kit at the theater to give her doggy support. Backstage, Martha meets Ham Johnson, voiced by Jon Hamm, an actor who admires Kit and wants to impress her. Together, they hatch a plan to reunite Kit with Cora.
Cora! Cora! Cora! airs Feb. 27 on PBS Kids. To learn more, click here.
