The importance of shelters cannot be stressed enough. For many dogs, shelters are a waiting room where they anticipate meeting their future best friend: us.
Unfortunately enough, many dogs have less than favorable stints in shelters because of kennels that are too small, play areas that are too worn-out, or a variety of other reasons. Pedigree has looked to address this problem through their "See what good food can do” campaign.
Miranda Lambert gets some puppy love!
For this project, Pedigree aims to give shelters support by both donating food and literally working on institutional support. For the many rundown shelters, volunteers that are part of the campaign will be looking to help give new coats of paint, re-structure kennels, and enhance play areas for the dogs.
"Providing much needed improvements to the shelters is a natural next step for us,” Merritt Gilbert, brand manager, told a representative, "we hope that through the shelter renovation project – and by giving the shelters good food to feed their dogs – we will create a more welcoming and healthy environment.”
The whole team celebrates their amazing renovation.
And the volunteers have had a touch of star dust as well. Country singer Miranda Lambert threw her support behind the cause, as well as baseball star David Ortiz and actor Josh Duhamel.
One shelter in each of the continental United States will receive $5,000 worth of Pedigree Food for Dogs and $5,000 worth of shelter renovation and improvement projects.
"I’m so happy to be working with Pedigree because they are as committed as I am to helping all these beautiful dogs find homes,” Lambert told a representative. The country star, along with her family, friends, and a band of volunteers, was able to successfully renovate the Tishomingo Animal Center in her hometown of Tishomingo, OK.

Pedigree has encouraged everyone to share their animal shelter stories through #DogTales on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. For each story shared, they will donate an additional bowl of food to a shelter in need.
