Best way to care for your pet, in my experience, during vacation time if you can't take them along, is a pet/house sitter. I've used wonderful, trustworthy, caring people through www.trustedhousesitters.com they come with excellent references, amazing experience and most of the time charge nothing....they do what they do for love of animals

Shelters are frequently in need of donated items such as blankets and toys. Contact your local shelter and ask what donated items they can
use.

There are many websites that have free instructions on how to make simple ball and rag toys. Spend a few nights making toys that can be donated to your local shelter. It's also a great project to do with the kids.
