Nicce article. Love any info about Collies. Have 2 males both rescues. I love them more than any other dogs I've had. So sweet, but so smart. One of my boys figured out how to turn on the clock radio during the night to alert me when he wanted up on our bed. Best breed ever.

I have had my collie for two and a half years and was beginning to think it was not a good watch dog because he would meet and greet everyone even strangers into the back yard. Then one day I was gardening and my collie was with me and a strange man came up and scared the wits out of me. My collie sensed I was startled and started barking a low bark that was definately not the normal high pitched bark he makes when he is excited or playing. This made me realize that my collie would always be there for me to protect me when an emergency comes up. And he read my emotions because as soon as I realized that this strange man was only there to read the electric meter, I told my collie it was ok and he calmed right down. I have had him since puppyhood and he used to chew alot more, but now that he is mature, he has quit ruining things. He play bites and it never hurts. I think this is natural. He has maybe nipped very lightly, but I thought he was just playing. He never hurt me and he is a huge dog of 76 pounds! Take him to the park and let him off the leash and he is always very friendly to all the other dogs and children and adults. Although because of his large size I can't let him around toddlers because he unintentionally knocks then over when he rubs up against them. He loves everyone! He is by nature so very friendly and never knows a stranger. He is always wagging his tail and sleeps with our new little kitten. It is funny that the cat and dog stay together and follow me around from room to room. I never get lonely, they are always right there! It is wonderful! I love my animals. My collie is wonderful!

I just puchased my 4month old collie 2 months ago. I work during the day and crate him. I worry that he is crated all day. When I come home I immediately get him out feed him a nd play with him, brush him and walk him around my neighborhood. I try to give him a lot of attention. Then at night I put him back in his crate for the night. Is he getting enough stimulation?? He is very socialble and I love him dearly since this is my very first pet.

What happened to the second page that used to be here? This is a wonderful article, by Collie owners, not just commentary in general.

This article brings back memories of our family collie(beautiful tri color), my Dad was in the service and our dog went everywhere with us. (Texas,Ca.MD.Mass.and
When my Dad received orders for Germany our collie flew out a few days before us. When we picked him up at the airport we were hugging and kissing him but he would always turn away. He was upset with us for not being with him. In his own time (usually 5 minutes)he would come and lick each of us constantly and if saying, please never do that again. So yes, collies are very sensitive dogs, but our families dog for life.

Mine eats my overstuffed furniture, other than that he is a joy and so silly.
