I have just submitted my lab mix's blood to be tested as she collapses when she has chased the ball too much. If she has the mutation, we will DNA test her and provide that data to the University Veterinary School.

I had a BLack filed lab that recintly died. She had congest of Heart failor. Her legs gave out the night she died to where she could not walk. About an hour later she passed. We looked up her medication and it said in bold letters DONOT GIVE TO RETRIVERS{Expesally Labs}So we thought it was an allergic reaction, But maybe it was this disease.

THANK YOU FOR THIS ARTICE IT TOLD ME WHAT MY LIFE LONG PET PROBABLY DIED FROOM!!!! THANKS!

I used to have a lab. I'm pretty sure she didn't have this mutation, but she loved to hunt. it would have been a shame for her to lose control of her hind legs after hunting!

I truely hope the people who are breeding these dogs do the responsible thing and stop breeding the dogs who turn up with this gene no matter how good the dog is! I also hope anyone who breeds any kind of dog will remember, it's about the dog, not about the pocketbook!

I have a Weimaraner, she is 7 years and has had a few episodes over the years during intense excercise, she will lose strength in her hind legs and fall down then pop back up. She is in great shape and has had no other health issues. I wonder if this gene could be present in Weimaraners as well?

I think my black lab, Jasmine may have this gene. I contributed her lack of muscle and coordination by being confined in a crate for longperiods of time until she about 2.
