My 12 year old Pug has a swollen abdomen and swollen front and back legs. We have ruled out the most common diseases. We are spending a lot of money on all these tests and still dont know what is causing this problem.

Good information. We lost our 13 year old girl after she had a swollen belly due to enlarged spleen and it turned out to be cancerous.

I have a pit bull/labrador retriever mix; female, 10 years old who developed a swollen abdomen about 4 days ago. She had been constantly drinking water from the toilet for over 4 weeks (I had told my children to keep the toilet seat down). She still has an appetite; she walks, climb stairs. I will not have any money for a vet visit for 5 days and every facility that we call refuses to treat her without payment.

Good information to know. I have a tendency to be cautions and if there is something I do not know about or understand that is going on with my dog's health always take my dog to our VET.

My German Shepard Chow mix has a swelling that seems perfectly round on his lower side body area. It does not hurt when I touch it, it feels like a cyst of some kind. He also has a hard node in his lower center chest area, also no pain. He is 12 yrs old and I am worried as I cannot afford the vet bill right now. Is this just old age or a more serious problem? He still eats and drinks. However we did have a rodent problem recently.

My dog is a 11 year Pomeranian and Spitz mixed breed. Off late we are noticing that most of the times he is laying down and is not much active. Sometimes he is panting too much and have problems in breathing. We consulted local vet and he said he is having fluids in his stomach. He has given deriphyline and Lasix (medicines), but those doesn't seem to work well. It looks like temporarily he feels a bit comfortable but again the same thing. He is having a bit change in his walking style too.

We had a German Shepherd thathad Seizures and was put on Dilantin and the Vet never did Blood Tests on him for the 6 years he was on it. Then his Abdomen started swelling up and he told us it was just Fluid and he gave us Laxix. He started Vomiting Blood that looked like Coffee Grinds and couldn't keep nothing down. The Vet told us to feed him Chicken & Rice and to give him Yogurt. That was torture to him,he had no appetite and still couldn't keep nothing down. So I took him to a Larger Animal Hospital, they took Bloodtests and exrayed his Abdomen and drawed Blood from his swollen belly. His Stomach was pushed out of the way by something , they sent me to the Main Animal Hospital in our State which was as Large as a Huamn Hospital. They took exrays of his Lungs and told me he had full blown Lung Cancer that was caused by a Liver Tumer that was bleeding into the Stomach and outside of the Stomach , caused by our Vet not doing periodical Blood Tests due to being on the Dilantin. That happened in 2006 and I am still so angry today that I wish I could file a Lawsuit on our previous Verternarian like you can a Human Patient Doctor for Malparactice. Our Dog died a Painful death 3 days later. They wanted me to Euthanize him at that Hospital , but I was by myself over 60 Miles from home and the dog was my Husband's Dog and he wanted the Dog to die at home , but I don't think he knew how horrible of a death it would be.They said our dog's lungs were like Swiss Cheese. We had noticed a few months before this happened that he had been lying on his bavck alot and we just thought it was cute, not knowing he was hiding his pain.We didn't notice the swollen belly until about 2 months before he died.He died just before his 10th Birthday. This all started from our Veternarian giving him his Rabies Injection in his Hip near his Spine and when he sat down during the Injection , the needle hit his Spinal Nerve and thus that night started the Seizures when he was only a Year Old. I found out from other Verternarians that all Vacinations are supposed to be injected under the skin at the Shoulder blade area.

My dog's stomache swelled up over a period of a couple weeks. Several trips to the vet, test after test says she is perfectly healthy. The fluid was even sent out to several other labs and nothing was
found.

I read an article on intestinal lymphanglasia, a rare disease prone to terriers. I sent the info to my vet and we began the typical treatment...steroids and antibiotics. At first, my dog had to go to the vet and have the fluid drained every two weeks. We are now up to 6 weeks. My dog is perfectly healthy other than the fluid on her stomach.

I have a female german shepherd 12 yrs of age. I took her in September 10th 2010, because her adomen was swollen and i thought she was constipated and the vet took xrays and ran blood work. The blood work came back ok and the xrays showed and enlarged heart. Now today was 15 days later and i took her back to the vet and my vet took a another xray and still told me she is not constipated. Now i am taking my dog back to get an altrasound on Tue. Sept 28th, 2010. Do you have any suggestions of what it might be?

Hi, My dogs abdomen over one weekend, swelled up terribly. We thought he was constipated so we gave him a week, he was not any better. We took him to our Vet, they determined it was full of clear fluid. Did an ultrasound, sent us to a Top 5 Vet school for evaluation, as he was stumped as to why he was blowing up with Fluid. They did a endoscopy, took 14 biopsies and the results were Severe Bowel Inflammatory Disease. They changed his diet, gave him a steroid medicine, it did not help he worsened, tried another steroid medicine, still worsening, he is now vomitting, not eating, and movement is near nothing. I am worried there could me more going on. Could it be Heartworms? Or even something else. We are worried to death and time is running out. Any suggestions?
