Have young Whippet. Live in Malibu California. Is registered with Universal Kennel Club. This not an AKC registration. How can I get him (is six months now and about to be neutered), to be able to do lure coursing? thanks.

I have a friend who bought a lure machine and I just started a meet-up group that will have lure chasing and lure coursing and some of the fun dog activities. The meet-up group is www.meetup.com/Dog-Fun.

AKC has approved of lure coursing for mixed breeds; however, the mixed breeds do not run with sighthounds and it is up to a club to offer the event. You can probably find out more about it by visiting AKC's
website.
Sighthounds with breed disqualifications are able to run in the mixed breeds lure coursing.

Sounds like a terrific idea. Gets other breeds to use their eyes as their major sense. This like agility would be great fun for dog and handler.

Would anyone like to form a lure chasing club in the Phoenix AZ area? I would gladly pay to have the opportunity to allow my dog Whiskers to do lure chasing once a month or so. She is crazy about it! Perhpas we could from a club and get our own equipment? Contact me if interested at dyares@gmail.com Thanks! Diana

Starting in 2011, AKC offer lure coursing to non-sighthounds (including mixed breeds).

I think this is a fantastic idea. Anxious to enter my Boxer. She loves to run and chase.

How can I do this? Is it set up now?

We are the ones who ran the Lure course at the Wags for Wishes in Phoenix. The event is called Lure for A Cure and it is part of the National Canine Cancer Foundation and all the money goes to fund canine cancer research. We will be in Phoenix again Jan 21 and 22 2011. We will also go anywhere for a 2 or 3 day dog event. Thanks Gary Nice President of the National Canine Cancer Foundation

I also am trying to find a club in Arizona for my Pug mix. We discovered lure coursing at a pet adoption event, and she loved it!

My dog LOVES lure coursing! We try to attend every dog event/show that has it. It is so much fun! At the last event that we went to, she did so well that she even caught the lure. I can't tell you how excited she gets. I am literally holding her back. I would like to find a lure course group here in Arizona. Did I mention she is a mini dachshund. It is the greatest!

I did a lure course with my coonhounds for the first time last year. They did great and we (dogs and people) had a great
time.

Now I am trying to find more in Arizona or not to far away.

the Jack Russell Terrier Club has events with Lure Coursing. At Jack Russell Local Clubs, such as the Yankee club, they hold Fun Days and most breeds are welcome to come and enjoy the fun.

Great! I just wish there were more clubs for non sighthound dogs. I took my Brittany to her first one yesterday. She had so much fun and did so well, I took her back today for more!! I live in Central California and the group that put this on was Course-A-Lure. They're great people but they're based in Utah! Let's get one started somewhere around the Central Coast of California!!

We tried Lure coursing at UKC PRemier in June with our American Hairless Terrier. He LOOOOOVED it. I think any of the breeds that excel in Terrier Racing would also love Lure Coursing. I would love to see the sport opened up to more than just Sighthounds
