Deaf dogs hear with their hearts not their
ears.
I have deaf Dalmatians that are therapy dogs, Canine Education Assistants and Reading Education Assistance Dogs. Hopefully this will help educate the public that deaf dogs make wonderful companion animals.

I really wish more folks would do more articles on just how great and EASY deaf dogs are to work with. I had never met one before pulling my dog from the shelter, who turned out to be deaf. He is trained with same hand signals as my hearing dog, doesn't startle and worked a 4-day rescue fund raiser event that is attended by 25000 folks. He handled all the attention and crowds like a champ. When I told people he was deaf, they said "oh poor baby". However, I asked them NOT to pity my dog but rather to see how awesome he is...we then demonstrated everything he knows to do and the pity turned to "WOW! How SMART!"...:-) Deaf dogs definitely need more publicity to get folks to understand they are not damaged goods!
