Dog Breeds by Group

Dog Breeds by Group

With hundreds of dog breeds to choose from, it can be difficult to know where to begin. It is important not only to choose a dog breed that is appealing to you, but also one that fits your personality, exercise level, grooming and space requirements. Even find dog breeds that don't shed. There will often be a variety of breeds that will fit your lifestyle, but one way to help narrow the choice is to review dogs by group. Groups have been formed by the national dog registries and help categorize dogs into similar skills, purposes and traits based on breed history and breed characteristics. Once you have narrowed down the group you are interested in, take time to research each breed to find the perfect companion for your family. The groups encompass: herding dogs, toy dogs, terriers, working dogs, non-sporting dogs, sporting dogs, and hounds. There are many dog breeds that are not recognized by the AKC, but are grouped as rare breeds.   Search dog breeds by group >>
