How We Met?
My son had been in a bad car accident in Nov. 98. He had a very bad concussion & his personality had totally changed. I was in the hospital having a pain pump put in & our family doctor suggested getting my son a dog. My roommate & I watched a dog show on TV. We fell in love with this little white ball of fluff, who ended up being Best in Show. He was a little Bichon Frise named JR (which is my son's name!). I took that as a sign to look for a Bichon. I found an add in the paper for Bichon puppies, but the last one had been taken that morning. She gave me the name of another breeder who was due to have puppies soon. We went to look at the puppies when they were 4 weeks old. We chose the biggest of the litter since we had 2 cats at home.
We had to wait 4 weeks before we could bring the puppy home. Two days after getting Max, I fell down a couple of steps & broke my ankle. I had surgery & wasn't allowed to put any weight on the foot for 6 weeks. I spent 6 weeks in a hospital bed in the living room, with Max by my side. The day the cast came off, it was discovered that I had a staph infection in my spinal cord (where the pain pump was), so it was another 6 weeks in the hospital bed in the living room. I ended up having to quit working & Max & I were together all the time. When my son got married, there was no way that Max was going with him. We had gotten Max to help my son (which he did), but Max ended up helping me even more. I don't know what I would have done without him during those 12 weeks of confinement. I use a cane to walk (I have MS) & he learned immediately to walk on my left side. He watches me on the steps & knows when I'm tired & need to take a rest/nap. He cries & whines until I sit in the chair with him or lay down on the couch. He has been such a blessing to me & my family.
