How We Met?

Her first service dog, Hattrick, died in June 2003, leaving an unbelievable void in her everyday life. Immediately Hattrick's trainer began the arduous task of searching for a 'replacement' dog. The first three dogs just didn't make the grade, which is not unusual in the industry, so I'm told. Then along came me, Brie, a Lab/St. Bernard mix. I look just like a black lab except I have a white chest and a little white on each paw. My mom tends to lose her balance and fall at times and I immediately position my body in front of her so she can use me to balance on and get up. I stand as still as a statue. I suppose I'm an unusual mix, but I was so quick and bright, that the trainer called the owners of the mother back to see if all puppies had been sold. They had one left, which they had kept as their pet. However, because Angie was training these dogs for the disabled, they gladly parted with my brother, Bud. By the time we were 12 wks. old we had mastered all basic obedience skills/commands and we were turning the light switches on and off on command, opening the fridge, and "nosing" the button that automatically opens doors on public buildings. I came to live with my mom in November 2006 before I was even a year old. I love to learn new things and we have a "work session" a couple times a day for about 5-10 minutes each. My mom says that I have brought back to her life the independence that left when Hattrick died. She says I have really enriched each day for her and she can't imagine going to sleep or waking up without me on the floor by her side. Thankfully my brother, Bud, was placed in early December with a young girl who also has a seizure disorder and he is working out just fine for her.

Hi My name is Mous and mum rescued me from the shelter. I'm so grateful to her and i've been looking for a way to pay her back all the time: i gave her a big bone, yummy treats and other tasty things, but... she didn't seem to like them! Amazing! Finally, I thought about a nice surprise for her! Yep, a DOTM badge! So I decided to run for DOTM in July. I hope to be your friend, because more friends means more fun! I pawed on your voter and I hope you can do the same! Love, your hopefully new friend Mous 94156 •Ps• my friend Shadow 108407 is running for DOTM in July too! Maybe you can be his friend!

Come visit me, Mous :)

Hi its me Rooti, I was looking for some help for my DOTM run in August and was wondering if you would help me? I would really like to win, there is some other dogs that are gonna be tough to beat but I still think of it as a furendly competition! When August comes can you put Vote Rooti 56964 DOTM August by your name? It would also be good to put a picture of you and me telling dogs to "Vote Rooti 56964 DOTM August" as your main picture. If you need any help with anything let me know and I will be here, exept for the month of August, you know how busy that gets! Hehe! Please blog back! Your Bluetick Coonhound Pal, Rooti

Hi Lady Brie

I belong to a group here on the DC called Service & Therapy Dogs Society and wanted to let you know about us and Klondike. Klondike - Featured Service Dog For July!!! Service and Therapy Dogs Society #82983 honors Klondike, a Service Dog from Kerrville, Texas. He's an eight year old white German Shepherd who has done something many of us have not - traveled overseas and learned another language!! Klondike is a well trained, devoted dog who has made a tremendous difference in his Mom's life. Come read his amazing story under the How We Met section on page #82983. While you're there leave a blog for Klondike and his mom, Vivian, and be sure to look at his additional pictures at the bottom of the page. Please join us in congratulating Klondike, our Service/Therapy Dog of the month.

Come visit me, Harley Davidson, Sophie Claire
