Q. What’s a “specialty” dog show?
A. A “specialty” dog show is a show where only one breed of dog is exhibited. Each breed has a national specialty club (also known as a parent club), as well as regional breed clubs throughout the country. Specialty shows provide a venue where breeders can see the progress their fellow breeders have made. It is a great learning experience if you’ve just gotten a new dog or if you’re considering a particular breed. You can spend a whole day immersing yourself in the breed, talking to fellow fanciers, and finding out which breeders are expecting litters.
