White Diamonds

Like the precious gem, the Bichon Frisé will light up your life.
By Eve Adamson

Katie-Did loves an audience.

At a recent dog show, the fluffy white Bichon Frisé decided that since all the other dogs stood on four legs, she would use just two.
“She walked on two feet around the whole show ring,” says Marlene S. of Texas, who was on the other end of Katie’s leash. “She thinks she’s a circus dog. The spectators and the judge were all laughing, but she didn’t get any points.”

It’s no surprise that historically many Bichons have worked as circus performers. Agile, daring, curious, and attention-seeking, these little white dogs with their round powder-puff heads and curly coats are full of charm and mischief. “They like to jump up on counters and steal your food and hide in closets until you panic because you can’t find them,” says Marlene, a Bichon breeder and president of the Bichon Frisé Club of Greater Los Angeles. “They certainly aren’t short on personality.”
