A Breeder Says
“The Dutch bred the Keeshond as a family pet and all-around farm dog: The dogs brought in the cattle, babysat the children, and barked when someone came on the property. People also kept them on barges as guard dogs. Even today, if you take a Keeshond on a boat, it’s very comfortable. I took my first Keeshond out on a board boat, where the water sweeps right over it. She’d stand by the mast, the water washing over her paws, and not care at all.”
— Deborah L. of Ohio has bred and shown Keeshonden for 38 years.
