A Day in the Life:NYC Dog Trainer
Take a peek into the hectic schedule of dog trainer Denise Herman.
Denise Flaim

"I love watching Supernanny," confides Denise Herman about the reality show that follows out-of-control kids who are "retrained" by a British governess in the Mary Poppins mold. "Its prime-time viewing for dog trainers."

Not that Herman, 35, has much time for television. She started Empire of the Dog Training and Consulting six years ago in Williamsburg, N.Y., a bohemian Brooklyn neighborhood. There are more than enough dogs behaving badly amid her neighborhoods yoga studios and microbreweries to keep this trainer on the go.
Consider a day in the life of our own doggie nanny:

9 a.m. Late starts are a perk of self-employment. Some mornings, Herman lingers in bed and massages her 6-year-old Chihuahua, Pi (the famous ratio you learned about in high school). But today, she lets Pi out in the yard, puts on some tea, and checks e-mail while her budgie, nicknamed Pi in the Sky, does fly-bys past her head.
