Healthy Start

Karla Rugh, DVM, Ph.D.

Its normal to be nervous about your puppys healthcare, especially if you've never owned a puppy before. But try to relax -- our guidelines will help you understand what your puppy needs to stay healthy.

Partner in Health
Your puppy needs a veterinarian -- and so do you. A qualified veterinarian will care for your puppys health and answer your questions about it. Many veterinarians can also advise you about other aspects of dog care, such as behavior and nutrition.

The breeder, shelter, or rescue from which you got your puppy can probably recommend a veterinarian. Ask your dog-owning friends for suggestions, too.
