More than 300 of the fancy’s finest turned out on Feb. 9 to honor their peers at the 53rd Purina Pro Plan Show Dogs of the Year Awards Presented by Dogs in Review. Media partners for the black-tie event held at New York’s Grand Hyatt Hotel were Dog World, Dog Fancy, Veterinary Practice News and Pet Product News International.
Editor-in-Chief Allan Reznik welcomed guests on behalf of BowTie, Inc., publisher of Dogs in Review, Dog World and Dog Fancy, then turned things over to Candy Caciolo, director of marketing for Pro Plan and the Breeder/Enthusiast Group, and Ann Viklund, director of conformation, who expressed Purina Pro Plan’s commitment to this great event and wished everyone good luck at Westminster.
The Special Industry Awards celebrate dedication to dogs at the community level. Jeff Scharf, BowTie’s vice president of advertising, announced the proud winners: Trainer of the Year (sponsored by Panasonic), Cesar Millan; Veterinarian of the Year (sponsored by Hartz), Dr. Steven Hansen, senior vice president of the Animal Control Center at the ASPCA; Shelter of the Year (sponsored by Frontline), the Irvine Animal Care Center; and the Cardinal Crystal Grooming Achievement Award (sponsored by Cardinal Labs), Christian Manelopoulos.
