Westminster Winner Becomes a Mother
Hickory Gives Birth to First Litter of Nine Puppies
Those who watched the 135th Westminster Kennel Club show saw history made when Scottish Deerhound Ch. Foxcliffe Hickory Wind became the first of its breed to win Best in Show. What’s the famous Hickory up to these days? She actually just became a mother for the first time of nine puppies born in October. Now retired from the ring, Hickory spends her time roaming the 50-acre farm she resides at in Flint Hill, Va., and imparting the qualities that made her famous to her new litter. The puppies were sired by Huntly (American and Canadian Champion Fernhill Huntly D’LUX) of Ontario, Canada.
As only the fifth hound to ever win Westminster, Hickory triumphed over a Bearded Collie, Cocker Spaniel, Portuguese Water Dog, Smooth Fox Terrier, Chinese Shar-Pei and Pekingese for the top spot. After rewarding Hickory with Best in Show, judge Paolo Dondina remarked “My satisfaction is complete now that I know that Hickory, after this great win, will go live on a farm with her breeders, where this beautiful bitch, hopefully, will give birth to lovely puppies in the future.” His predictions were certainly confirmed. Tune in to see the 136th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show to be televised live on February 13-14, 2012.
