Why do they need muzzles? If all the dogs are friendly why use them. I only use a muzzle on my German Shepherd when we take her for walks and just so people won't get nervous

These dogs need muzzles - terriers should never be raced without them, both for the dogs and handlers safety. JRT's in particular are highly prey driven and will fight each other over the "prey" during racing. They can inadvertently bite the catchers or handlers when they get excited. I've raced terriers for over 20 years, and judged JRT racing for over 12 years.
