About the Yorkshire Terrier

Developed in England to control the rat population in the coal pits and cotton mills, Yorkies today enjoy a bit more pampered lifestyle. They crave affection and do best in the homes of adults or older children who can provide them with regular attention throughout the day. Their "big dog" attitude, strong terrier instincts, and a self-assured manner makes them an alert watchdog. More>>

My little Yorkie was an escape artist! And a marathon runner! Last week, she slipped out of her collar and ran into busy streets, so I lost her. She was so much joy to my life.

I would like to know if the running (almost senselessly) is a characteristic of the breed, or if I can look for a calmer pet. I do want another Yorkie, but I am not sure that obedience training would prevent another disaster. Help!

I have a 3.5 lb. Yorkie named Belle Pippa. She's our princess, spoiled and demanding. I'm not sure when she took over the household but.... she stole our hearts the moment we saw her!
