Rep. Steny Hoyer Brings His Dog to Work

Minority whip has one trusted Washington ally: his dog, Charlotte.

In the dog-eat-dog world of Washington D.C. politics, Rep. Steny Hoyer has one friend he can always count on: his dog, Charlotte, who accompanies him every day to his Washington office.

Hoyer, who has been House minority whip since 2002, can often be seen jumping out of his Capitol Police-guarded SUV with the 13-year-old English Springer Spaniel by his side.

Charlotte was also a frequent companion on Hoyer’s campaign through Southern Maryland, where the Democrat was reelected to represent the 5th Congressional District in last week’s election, a post he has held since 1981.

Hoyer, who lives near Mechanicsville, Md., served on the honorary committee for the 2006 Bark Ball, an annual fundraiser for the Washington D.C. Humane Society.

I think it's a great example for other offices to allow dogs. I have worked in several pet friendly businesses and it's definitely an advantage imo.
