Beth Ostrosky Raises $300,000 for Animal Charity

Howard Stern’s wife finishes NYC marathon with victory – and cash for a cause.

Posted: November 18, 2008, 5 a.m. EST

Beth Ostrosky looked flushed with victory as she pumped her fists into the air while crossing the finish line at the New York City Marathon earlier this month. But the real winner that day was the North Shore Animal League, which received $300,000 in donations from Ostrosky and her team of 20 runners.

“This was the happiest day of my life,” said Ostrosky, who serves as celebrity spokesperson for the Long Island animal shelter, in an interview with the New York Daily News.

Ostrosky’s new husband, shock jock Howard Stern, who contributed $5,000 to Ostrosky’s “Team O,” greeted the ex-model at the finish line. “Oh, honey, you earned this,” he said as his wife fell into his arms.

Stern wasn’t the only high-profile celebrity to lend Ostrosky support. Friend and retired tennis ace Monica Seles helped calm Ostrosky’s jitters the night before the big race.

“She told me to use my nervousness to keep going,” Ostrosky said. “I just kept thinking about seeing Howard and [his daughter] Ashley on the finish line.”

I admire Beth for all she does for animals. She is very sincere about her love of pets, and really gives her all. Can you forward this e-mail to her. I have a very sick dog that needs immediate medical attention, but I have lost my job and face serious financial problems. NSAL's medical center on Long Island, where we reside only takes on pets that were adopted from them. I adopted Snuffles 8 years ago from a shelter near Pottsdam, New York. I drove 8 hours each way to bring this dog home. She is a part of our family and my wife and 2 daughters love her. We also took in another dog from the Hurricane Katrina disaster, thank God her health is OK. I know if Beth heard this story, she might be able to offer some help. You can't e-mail Howard Stern's show, they never do anything when it comes to situations like these no matter what they want you to beleive. It's not their responsibilty anyway. I just do not want the dog to die. I don't have an answer, so I thought I'd appeal to Beth. Or if there is way to get some help from Dog Channel.

Thanks

North Shore Animal League America does not always accept back an animal should adopter seek to return. As a result, many are sent to high kill municipal shelters. Beth Ostrosky should have distributed the money to small grass root organizations or municipal shelters who work on a shoe string budget, many who have come to the rescue of dogs and cats who originated from North Shore Animal League America.

I am impressed! I really don't think much of her husband, but it's nice that she did this.
