NASCAR Champ Fights Pet Overpopulation

Champion racecar driver Greg Biffle becomes spokesperson for SPAY/USA.

Posted: March 6, 2009, 5 a.m. EST

NASCAR champion Greg Biffle plans to make a positive impact in the animal community by serving as spokesperson for SPAY/USA — a nationwide network that provides referrals to affordable spay-neuter services. Biffle hopes that his high profile and status as an animal lover will help raise awareness and proactive efforts to help control the number of pets euthanized each year.

“It’s vitally important to control pet overpopulation. There are over 7,000 puppies and kittens born each day with millions of healthy, innocent, unwanted animals put to death as a result of overpopulation,” Biffle says.

Biffle also plans to encourage others in the motorsports industry to follow his lead as a responsible pet owner and have their own animals spayed or neutered as he has done with his own three dogs. Biffle and his wife also founded the Greg Biffle Foundation, which has assisted in helping other rescue groups attend the SPAY/USA National Spay/Neuter Conference.

“I believe that Greg and his Foundation provided an invaluable opportunity for people dedicated to animal welfare,” says Esther Mechler, SPAY/USA founder and director.
