For the last 15 years, cartoonist Patrick McDonnell has been entertaining newspaper readers across the country with his comic strip “Mutts,” starring Earl the dog and Mooch the cat.
In his latest book, “Take Time to Stop and Smell the Roses: A Mutts Treasury,” McDonnell offers fans a collection of comics following a year in the life of the furry friends.
With more than 200 pages of black-and-white and color comics, pet lovers will enjoy the hilarity and high jinx that ensue when Earl, Mooch, and their friends: Shtinky Puddin,’ Sphinx, Guard Dog, Crabby, and others come together. Whether spending a day at the beach or getting into seasonal shenanigans, the Mutts characters are always looking for the lighter side of life, channeling McDonnell’s own perspective.
In a simple, humorous tone, the cartoons also address a variety of topics close to McDonnell’s heart, including animal rescue, saving endangered species, and protecting the environment. The author encourages us all to slow down and, as the book’s title suggests, enjoy the little things in life.
Infusing each comic strip with his unique outlook, quirky humor, and personal philosophies, McDonnell creates a simple world that will bring cheer to any animal lover this holiday season.
“Take Time to Stop and Smell the Roses: A Mutts Treasury” by Patrick McDonnell is on sale now.
