A Wyoming family's Leonberger dog has given birth to a litter of 18 puppies. Ariel, a large Leonberger dog owned by Mary Ann Ruggiero-Smith, of Powell, gave birth to the puppies on Oct. 27, The Associated Press reports.

Dog breeders in Wisconsin will soon be licensed, in an effort to eliminate large puppy mills where dogs have been known to be abused-and-neglected. Governor Jim Doyle signed the licensing mandate into law Tuesday. It requires breeders with more than 25 dogs to be licensed by the state each year, the Pierce County Herald reports.
