You see them all across the country, yelping seemingly happy dogs in cages at puppy stores. But these animals are often the result of unscrupulous breeding. On Wednesday, 150 castoffs from a “puppy mill” in Missouri arrived in New Jersey, ready to be taken into adoption agencies in the area, reports.

Almost Heaven Kennel Owner on Trial for Cruelty
A Lehigh County, Pa., kennel owner charged with animal cruelty told an SPCA official during a 2008 raid that the huge operation was “way, way over his head,” according to trial testimony Wednesday. George Bengal told jurors that Derbe “Skip” Eckhart made the comment to him during the Oct. 1, 2008 raid at Almost Heaven Kennel, The Associated Press reports.
