Parasite Education Road Show TourThe Companion Animal Parasite Council is hitting the road once again to educate veterinarians and pet owners on the importance of year-round parasite control in dogs and cats.

This year’s Parasite Education Road Show Tour will tour the Southeast, starting July 15 in Memphis, Tenn., and concluding July 31 in Atlanta, prior to the American Veterinary Medical Association’s conference. Veterinary meetings and events for pet owners are scheduled in 15 cities.

During the tour, CAPC will meet with veterinarians, technicians and health professionals to present a continuing education program on vectors, vector-borne diseases and internal parasites. The technical program will be presented by CAPC board parasitologists Byron Blagburn, Ph.D., of Auburn University and Dwight Bowman, Ph.D., of Cornell University.

CAPC will also hold events to educate pet owners on the importance of parasite control in protecting their pets and their families from zoonotic diseases associated with parasites.

Mike Paul, D.V.M., executive director of CAPC, said that the response from veterinarians and staff has been overwhelmingly positive. “The educational tours have proven to be very effective in helping us spread the word about these parasitic threats and the latest diagnostic and prevention protocols to most effectively manage them.”

Most of our pets are infected at some point in their lifetimes with parasites, and there is a real risk that they could be transmitted to children and pregnant women, the CAPC says. It is important that parents, veterinarians and health care professionals are aware of this fact of nature and make the effort to protect our families accordingly.

The dates and cities for this year’s tour are:

  • July 15-16, Memphis, Tenn.

I'm glad that I live in a pretty mild area when it comes to parasites. Except for those nasty ticks!
